Haircuts and Styling

   the maintenance guide.

You’ve been getting your hair cut your whole life, and you likely do some kind of styling every day - so what is there for us to add?
Maybe nothing!
But we may just have a tip or a trick you haven’t heard before so check it out!

Having salon fresh hair every day isn’t as hard as it may seem, there’s a few simple things you can do to keep the “I’ve just had my hair done” look for as long as possible!

・Sleep with a satin pillowcase

A satin pillowcase will reduce friction while you sleep, helping to prevent frizz, breakage, and if you’ve already got your hair styled how you like, it can even help the style last another day!

Use the Right Products

Invest in professional-quality shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that suit your scalp, hair type, and your goals.
Your stylist can recommend options tailored to you and your hair.
Or don’t, if you have products that you love and don’t feel like your hair could be any better, stick with what works!
You do you boo.

Wash your hair right

Wash just your scalp, you don’t need to rub it through your ends, unless they actually got dirty, like in the mud or something, the bubbles running over the ends will be enough!
Condition your ends and not your scalp, this will avoid blocking hair follicles and your hair getting oily faster.
Comb or use a wet brush gently on your wet hair, starting from the ends and removing tangles gently.
Squeeze the water from your hair and then use a microfibre towel (or a normal towel if you prefer, but microfibre is better) to remove moisture gently, no scrubbing or roughing it up!

Did you know your hair is at its most fragile when it’s wet? That’s why it’s so important to be gentle.
In fact, blow-drying your hair and scalp can often be healthier than letting it dry naturally! 🤯

Master the Blow-dry

A good blow-dry is the foundation of most styles. Work in sections, aim the nozzle downward for smoothness, and finish with a blast of cool air to lock everything in place.

If you need some help with this, we offer 1 on 1 styling sessions, with the cost redeemable on products. You can even bring in your own hairdryer, straightener or heat tools for us to help you learn how to use them correctly!

Embrace Heat Protection

Before reaching for your hot tools, always apply a heat protectant to shield your hair from damage and keep it looking shiny and healthy. Keune Style Rush Hour is a heat protector that will also help your hair dry faster which is a win/win in our books!

Keep Your Style Fresh

Dry shampoo is a go-to for keeping your style fresh between washes.
Apply it at the roots to soak up oil and add volume!
Just remember not to rely on it for too many days in a row - a clean scalp is essential for healthy hair.
If you prefer to wash your hair every day? Do it! The advice telling you not to is outdated.

Schedule Regular Trims

Even the best styling can’t disguise split ends forever.
Keep your hair looking sharp and healthy with trims every 6-12 weeks.
Growing your hair and scared to get it cut that regularly?
Book in for a split end dusting to take care of just those splits or an “I’m growing my hair and I don’t want a haircut trim”

With these simple tips, you can keep that salon-fresh feeling long after your visit to Salem.
If you’re unsure about products or tools, your stylist is always happy to help you find the perfect match for your hair!
