Yes, you need a Toner
At Salem we tone after all lightening services, a toner make all the difference between your hair looking like you bleached it at home, or having it done professionally in the salon.
A toner is a semi permanent colour, usually applied at the basin after pre lightening (also called bleaching) then processed for as little as 1 minute up to 20 minutes, depending on the end goal!
Any time hair is lightened underlying warm pigments left behind, these can present as red, orange or yellow and a toner will counteract these unwanted reflects that are left behind.
A toner can't lighten your hair anymore, but what we call a 'clean blonde' that has been toned correctly often looks a lot lighter than a yellow blonde, whereas ash or grey colours often look darker.
Toner can also be used to make your hair grey, blue, pink, silver or lilac as long as it is light enough blonde before the toner is applied.
We can use a toner to do a root shadow, which makes the colour look a lot more natural, giving it depth and dimension at the roots, mimicking the way hair lightens naturally in the sun.
The more often you shampoo your hair, and the more damaged it is the quicker a toner will fade, if you have hair that tends to look yellow or brassy quickly in between appointments you can come in and have your hair re-toned to keep you looking fresh!
We also recommend good home hair care (such as a good quality colour safe shampoo and conditioner) as well as using regular treatments (such as bond fusion, or olaplex) and purple or blue shampoo to keep your colour looking great in between visits.
